Website Analytics

Check out the 2 videos at the bottom of this page. First an introduction to Google Analytics and the second a short tutorial how to use Google Analytics,

Firstly some terms you need to know:

1. A Visit-is one individual visitor who arrives at your web site and proceeds to browse. A visit is counted even if that individual has been to your site before.

2. A Unique Visit will tell you who is visiting your site for the first time again tracked. Note that most analytics track visits by the IP address of the computer. The number of unique visits is only tracked if cookies are enabled on the visitors computer.

3. Page View/Impression. Visitors search pages on your website and these are tracked as page views that provide good indicators whether visitors find the website interesting.

4. Hits refer to the number of files downloaded on your site, this could include photos, graphics, etc. Picture the average web page, it has photos (each photo is a file and hence a hit) and lots of buttons (each button is a file and hence a hit). In recent years on average, each page will include 15 hits. E.g. 1 Visit to an average web site will generate 3 Page Views and 45 Hits.

5. Traffic Sources - How visitors find your site that can be via:

> Direct Navigation (website address / URL, bookmarks, email links, website links etc.)

> Referrals (links from other websites, social media, emails etc. )

> Organic Search (web search engines)

> PPC (Pay Per click sponsored ads on websites / emails and SEM.
